City of St. John's Cyling Plan Petition

The City of St. John's Cycling Plan is in trouble. Some of the streets scheduled to have bike lanes would lose on-street parking on one or both sides, and the residents of those streets are quite unhappy. Please note that they do have driveways to use.

A 300-name petition against the bike lanes was tabled tonight at the city council meeting. A few supporters of the Plan on council, as well as a few of the City's Transportation Engineering team, are very concerned that this will put a stop to the Plan.

A petition in support of the Cycling Plan has been set up at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stjohnscyclingplan/. You'll find more information there, and you're welcome to email Sarah Smellie at sarahsmellie@gmail.com with any questions. The City's Parks and Recreation Committee is meeting on Friday afternoon to make some decisions about the Cycling Plan, so we're hoping to get as many signatures as possible by then.

Georgestown has a large number of cyclists in our neighbourhood, so many of you may want to support sustainable city initiatives like the Cycling Plan.
